Analysis of Rate of Changes Reports

Often, performance changes / usage changes may happen and not be captured by automatic baselining. This may be because:

  • Auto-baselines are not configured for all metrics

  • Depending on the nature of change, changes may not be captured by auto-baselining across days/weeks

There may be different types of changes such as:

  • Gradual change over time

  • Sudden change over time

  • Time of day variations with gradual changes

Being informed of these changes is a key to preemptive monitoring. To keep track on these changes, eG Enterprise has introduced the following reports:

Only tests configured for trend analysis will be considered for rate of change calculations. Therefore, these reports will be generated only for those tests that are configured for trend analysis.

How Rate of Changes are Computed by eG Enterprise?

eG Enterprise’s day end activities now include analysis of metrics to make it possible to analyze changes. Every hour, the 5th and 95th percentile values of each metric are captured. The same process is done for daily data also. Changes are computed based on daily, weekly and monthly metric ranges.

Rate of change can be computed as either an absolute value or an average value. When computed as an absolute value, the calculation is defined as (final value – initial value) / initial value * 100.

This is ideal for a metric like disk usage where the initial and final values matter.

When Rate of change is computed as an average value , the average of the absolute change of each day is used for the weekly average.
